    Gifted and Talented Program

Gifted and Talented Program at Lynnwood School

Lynnwood School is proud to be a Division site for the Gifted and Talented program, designed to meet the unique learning needs of high-ability students who have been formally identified through the CCAT7 and/or psychoeducational assessments conducted by a registered psychologist.

While all Alberta students follow the Alberta Program of Studies, the Gifted and Talented program goes well beyond grade-level expectations. Gifted learners tend to grasp concepts quickly and require programming that matches their accelerated pace, depth of thinking, and intellectual curiosity.

At Lynnwood, our Gifted and Talented students engage in:

    • Inquiry-Based Learning: Students explore complex questions and real-world problems, developing critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills.

    • Project-Based Learning: Hands-on, interdisciplinary projects allow students to apply their knowledge in creative and meaningful ways, often culminating in presentations, prototypes, or community-based solutions.

    • Rigorous, Enriched Curriculum: Programming is thoughtfully designed to stretch student thinking, offering challenge, depth, and opportunities for academic exploration beyond the regular curriculum.

Students in the program are grouped with peers who share similar cognitive abilities, which fosters intellectual collaboration, creativity, and confidence. Teachers provide accelerated content, open-ended tasks, and individualized supports that match the pace and complexity these learners require.

Benefits of the Gifted and Talented Program:

    • Develops independence, self-direction, and leadership skills

    • Builds strong critical and creative thinking abilities

    • Encourages a love of learning and intellectual risk-taking

    • Prepares students for success in advanced academic pathways

If you are looking for a program that challenges and inspires your child to think deeply, ask big questions, and engage meaningfully with their learning — the Gifted and Talented program at Lynnwood School may be the right fit.

Community Learning Skills (CLS) Program at Lynnwood School

The Community Learning Skills (CLS) program at Lynnwood School is designed to support students with moderate delays in most or all areas of development. These students may also have physical, sensory, medical, or behavioural disabilities that require specialized instruction and support.

Our goal is to help each student grow to their fullest potential — academically, socially, and personally — in a safe, caring, and inclusive environment.

    What the CLS Program Offers:

    • Individualized Programming: Each student has a personalized plan tailored to their strengths, needs, and learning goals.
    • Targeted Skill Development: Focus areas include basic academics, communication skills, self-help and life skills, and social-emotional learning.
    • Functional Learning: Students practice skills in real-life contexts — in the classroom, throughout the school, and in the wider community.
    • Collaborative Team Support: Teachers work closely with educational assistants, therapists, and other professionals to provide comprehensive, consistent support.

    Benefits for Students:

    • Builds independence in daily routines and decision-making
    • Enhances communication and interaction skills
    • Develops confidence and self-advocacy
    • Promotes a sense of belonging and community involvement
    • Provides a structured and nurturing environment for growth

We believe in helping every student develop the skills they need to be as independent, confident, and engaged as possible — both now and in the future.

If you would like more information about the CLS program or how to access it, please contact the school office.

  • Learning at Lynnwood School

    Learning at Lynnwood School

At Lynnwood School, the Alberta Program of Studies serves as the foundation for regular programming across all grades. It guides the teaching and learning experiences we provide to ensure students meet provincial standards while engaging in meaningful, relevant, and age-appropriate learning.

We believe that children thrive in safe, caring, and inclusive environments — at home, at school, and in the community. When students are supported in ways that honour their curiosity, interests, and strengths, they are more likely to discover pathways that lead to personal and academic success.

Our approach is rooted in seeing each child as strong, capable, and full of potential. This vision inspires our entire school community to nurture every student’s unique learning journey and celebrate their individual growth.

At Lynnwood School, we are proud to have a dedicated and compassionate team of professionals who are committed to supporting both academic achievement and personal development. Our staff engage in ongoing professional learning, collaborative planning, and reflective practice to ensure that the learning experiences we offer are engaging, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all students.

Together, we work to create a learning environment where every child is seen, heard, and supported — and where they are encouraged to reach their full potential.

Welcome Back!

Principal's Message

Welcome to Lynnwood School!

We are excited to welcome your family to a new school year at Lynnwood—a vibrant learning community where every child is known, valued, and supported. Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning, we look forward to partnering with you in what promises to be an exciting year of growth and achievement.

At Lynnwood, our mission is to ensure high levels of learning for all students. We are committed to providing engaging and inclusive learning experiences that challenge students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. Our staff functions as a professional learning community, continuously reflecting on and refining our instructional practices to support each learner’s unique strengths, passions, and needs.

We offer a variety of programming, including our mainstream program, Gifted and Talented programming, and Community Learning Skills (CLS). Across all programs, we focus on building a supportive and caring environment where students feel safe to take risks, learn from mistakes, and strive for excellence.

Strong relationships between home and school are the foundation of student success. We believe that education is a shared responsibility, and we are committed to keeping parents informed and engaged through regular communication. Platforms such as SchoolZone and Google Classroom allow us to share timely updates on student learning, school events, and important notices. We are also fortunate to have a dedicated Parent Council and Parent Society whose ongoing support enhances learning opportunities in technology, fine arts, physical education, and more.

We encourage all families to review our Family Handbook, available on our website. This resource outlines important expectations, routines, and procedures that help guide our shared work as a school community.

On behalf of the entire staff, thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education. We are confident that your time at Lynnwood School will be a rewarding and enriching experience—and we hope you’ll come to believe, as we do, that Lynnwood is truly a school of excellence.

Warm regards,

David Tran, B.Ed, M.Ed
Principal, Lynnwood School
